September 4, 2024 โ President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. announced that the Philippine government has prepared P65.6 billion in standby funds to support relief efforts in the aftermath of Severe Tropical Storm Enteng, which has caused widespread damage and displacement.
In addition to the standby funds, Marcos reported that the government has allocated P2.6 billion for food and non-food items and P480.61 million for health logistics, ensuring access to critical medical services for affected communities.
Evacuation and Support
As of the latest reports, 63,000 individuals have sought refuge in 452 evacuation centers across the regions hardest hit by the storm. Relief operations are ongoing, with local authorities and the national government working closely to meet the immediate needs of displaced families.
Waste Management and Road Clearing Operations
President Marcos emphasized the importance of addressing waste management issues in the wake of the storm. He urged local government units (LGUs) to prioritize waste disposal to prevent health hazards in affected areas.
โI am calling on all LGUs to immediately address the waste management concerns left by the storm,โ Marcos said. โTeams from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) are already deployed in our communities to begin clearing operations on affected national roads.โ
Deployment of Resources and Restoration of Services
The President also highlighted the deployment of over 1,700 pieces of equipment across various regions to ensure the reopening of vital road networks. He assured the public that electricity restoration efforts are underway, with emergency communication systems and more than 2,000 search, rescue, and retrieval assets on standby in case additional support is needed.
โOur teams are on the ground, working tirelessly to restore power and ensure that our communication networks are operational. We are fully prepared to respond to any further challenges that may arise,โ Marcos said.
The governmentโs robust response underscores its commitment to helping affected communities recover from the stormโs devastation, while ensuring that essential services are restored as quickly as possible.
