As we enter the heart of hurricane season, all eyes are on Hurricane Beryl, a formidable storm currently making its way through the Gulf of Mexico. Hurricane Beryl, now a Category 4 hurricane, formed rapidly in the Atlantic, gaining strength as it moved westward. The storm’s current trajectory suggests it will continue to intensify as it approaches the warmer waters of the Gulf of Mexico, which often serve as a catalyst for hurricanes to gain additional power.
As of now, Hurricane Beryl has left several Caribbean islands such as Barbados, St. Lucia, and the Dominican Republic devastated, as it continues towards Jamaica and Mexico. Additionally, the Weather Channel has confirmed that areas in the Southeast United States will be affected. The exact trajectory of the storm once it reaches the Southern coast of the United States is still unclear, though there is potential for Beryl to climb up into Texas and other areas, leaving unprepared communities seriously affected.
The American Acorn Foundation is gearing up to assist communitiesaffected by Beryl. In particular, after witnessing the devastating aftermath of hurricane Katrina on vulnerable communities, the Acorn Foundation plans to allocate funds to help evacuate and relocate at risk members of impacted regions. We also plan to help accumulate resources for affected areas. In this way, we hope to minimize the potential damage of Beryl. For more information about our Emergency Campaign, visit our page here.
